Week 2 of the NFL 2023 season is a downturn for the NFC North division teams, and the Detroit Lions are one of the teams faring worst. The Sunday game against the Seattle Seahawks has left the Lions with a lot to recuperate.

Lions safety CJ Gardner-Johnson is one of the unfortunate few who received serious injuries from the game. The injury report is grave, and it is likely to affect the prospects of the Lions as they go ahead with the season.

CJ Gardner-Johnson’s injury during Detroit Lions vs Seattle Seahawks in Week 2 

Following the Week 2 game between the Lions and Seahawks, Ian Rapoport @RapSheet reported the severity of Gardner-Johnson’s injury via a tweet. The national insider for NFL Network and NFL.com posted, “#Lions DB CJ Gardner-Johnson is feared to have suffered a torn pec in Sunday’s game… The playmaker had been a big part of Detroit’s defense. Now out indefinitely, potentially for the season.

The 2023 NFL season began on a good note for Gardner-Johnson as a part of the Detroit Lions starting this season. The 25-year-old left impressions in both the games before the injury took place during the game’s opening drive.

According to reports, the Lions’ safety had a pectoral injury that will keep him off the field for the rest of the season. This is a big blow for the Lions, considering their off-season pickup will be sitting out the remaining games this season in recovery.

In light of all that happened, CJ Gardner-Johnson tweeted on his social media, saying, “For all the Detroit fans that supported today, man thank you! We owe y’all Frfr.”

Detroit Lions’ season outlook looking uncertain with injuries

The Detroit Lions have been struck with bad luck on the field in Week 2. The gravity of the situation is seen in more injuries aside from CJ Gardner-Johnson. Lions pass rusher James Houston, who achieved one sack and one quarterback hit, will also be out of the game for some time with his ankle injury.

Not only that, rookie wide receiver Antoine Green and running back David Montgomery also faced concussion and thigh bruise, respectively. Two other players, wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and safety Kerby Joseph, also incurred injuries but came back to the game.

The Lions lost to the Seahawks 37-31. And with major players recovering, it could take all their efforts to keep up with the rest of the season. The Detroit Lions (0-2) will be facing the Atlanta Falcons (2-0) next Sunday. Will the upcoming match be a game-changer? Wait and watch.
