NFT Artwork by Patrick Mahomes Sells for a Whopping $3.4 Million in Half an Hour

Associating the term millionaire with Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is pretty commonplace. After impressing us all with his performances over the past couple of seasons, the Super Bowl-winning QB bagged himself a massive $500 million 10-year contract with the franchise in 2020.
And now it looks like the Mahomes will be raking in the millions through another avenue as well. After recently announcing his decision to plunge into the NFT (non-fungible tokens) marketplace, the QB said he’d be auctioning a selection of artworks and collectibles on the digital art website MakersPlace.
The digital collection highlights some of the biggest moments in the QB’s career, including his famous Super Bowl win. And it’s safe to say, there were plenty of buyers for Mahomes’ artwork.

The digital memorabilia that Patrick Mahomes auctioned featured 6 digital artworks. Four of these open editions, while two were limited edition pieces.
And while the pieces of art were available for a limited period of time on the website, it was enough to rake in millions for the QB.

The open edition piece titled ‘Showtime’ sold 257 editions at $2,500. This artwork alone pooled in $642,500. Another highly successful piece was Mahomes’ ‘LIV Champion’ which sold 91 copies at $5,000.
To further incentivize buyers, the collector with most editions in each tier will get a personally autographed jersey from the main man himself.
‘The Sideways Spectacular’ and ‘2018 MVP’ also raked in a total of $470,000 and $420,000 respectively. As for the two limited edition artworks which had only 50 pieces available, 49 were sold at lightning speed.

The amount pooled in from the purchase of these artworks totaled close to $1.5 million. This meant that in a little over half an hour, Mahomes’ artwork garnered $3.4 million.
One more ultra-exclusive piece is still up for bidding. Titled ‘Mahomes Magic’ the latest bid for the piece stands at over $80,000. The winning bidder will not only get the artwork, but also a signed jersey from Mahomes. Add to that a 55-inch Samsung frame to display the digital art, and a ruby and Swarovski crystal-encrusted helmet.
