Deion Sanders is one of the most recognizable names in the NFL world. ‘Prime Time,’ as he is popularly known, has solidified his status as one of the best to ever do it. Sanders has exuded confidence in both his playing and coaching careers. But despite pulling off an indomitable outlook, Coach Prime’s origins were far more somber. And he, recently, opened up more about his struggles.

Most recently, Sanders was brought into the spotlight because of certain controversial statements that he made. The former JSU head coach, who has now moved to Colorado, sought to justify his statements. While speaking on ‘The Pivot Podcast’ the conversation delved into other aspects of the former CB’s life that strengthened his ability to rely on only himself. Here’s what he said.

While Prime Time could’ve easily held a grudge, he sharpened himself into a self-sufficient being. He said, “Every time I talk about this I almost break down. No one ever came to see me play in high school. My mama was working, she was hustling. Father was doing his thing, he made some games. My stepfather never came because he was doing his thing. So, that allows you to understand Prime.”

He added, “So had to build up this dude inside of me that ain’t need nobody.”  Sanders had to reconcile with the fact that no one would be present to cheer him on or applaud his performance, and that’s a subject that continues to be emotionally potent. Despite the lack of appreciation, the former CB rose up against the odds, becoming the first player to be featured in both the Super Bowl and World Series.

Sanders is determined above all else

Currently, Deion Sanders has been making headlines because of certain controversial statements about the type of players he picks. However, he clarified what he meant during his appearance on ‘The Pivot’. According to Sanders, he believes that he got into trouble for being candid about stereotypes.
