Even though Odell Beckham Jr. is suffering from a torn ACL, he remains one of the hot agents in the market. Many speed-hungry clubs are eying for an impactful WR, and the New England Patriots were one of them trying to get Beckham on their roster.

On Saturday, the Patriots added one more asset to their receiver corps in the form of DeVante Parker. However, it was revealed that before the latest trade, Patriots lured Beckham to make a deal with the franchise last offseason. And the star wide receiver was so close to making a deal with them.

Odell Beckham always wanted to be with Tom Brady

Odell Beckham Jr. is one of the most accomplished and talented wide receivers on the current list of players. When the Browns released him last November, Beckham revealed that the Patriots were the first team trying to convince and make a deal with them. And as expected, he was very close to signing a deal but ended up with the Rams and subsequently, went on to become the Superbowl champion.

The former Giants super WR has immense respect for Tom Brady and the Patriots coach Bill Belichick and always wanted to play with them.

“I was (thinking), ‘You know, if this was three years ago, it would’ve been ideal because Tom is one of my favorites. And for a guy, a coach like Bill Belichick, who I’ve admired for years, For him to call me; to be able to just sit down on the phone and talk football — I mean, it’s like, what more could you ask for?” Beckham expressed his affection for the star QB and Coach during his interview.

The star, who was speculated to be a mainstay for any team, was first drafted by the New York giants. He was selected in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft and played for five seasons with the team. Later he was traded to the Cleveland Browns and featured for two and a half years before getting mired in some controversies and leaving the team.

It was a golden opportunity for the team in the 2021 mid-season to get a player like Beckham and help them push the ending phase of the league. Reportedly, the Patriots and Rams were the front-runners, and Beckham went for the reigning Super Bowl Champions on a one-year deal.

On Friday, ESPN’s Jimmy Fowler said Beckham and the Patriots were “in no real rush” to get a contract done. Also, Beckham is not expected to return to the field until November, making it even more worrying for the team to select him unless they want an active player to push in the end season. Beckham will not have to lose hopes because the Patriots are still left with a No. 21 overall pick.
