Latest troubles for Colin Kaepernick

Former San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick recently launched a non-dairy ice cream flavor called ‘Change the Whirled’ in partnership with ‘Ben & Jerry’s. And the billion-dollar company launched the flavor to celebrate Kaepernick’s activism in the field of racial justice over the recent years.

But that partnership has become a bone stuck in Kaepernick’s throat. Recent reports have identified Ben & Jerry’s as one of the companies employing child laborers in their supply chain, which is adversely affecting the former NFL quarterback and his activism brand.

According to the New York Times, children as young as 13 work 12 hours a day in supply chains of companies including Ben & Jerry’s. And the work often comes at the cost of school. Other companies named in the report are Whole Foods, Target and Walmart.

Ben & Jerry’s has issued a statement denying their role in the child labor issue. “Ben & Jerry’s is opposed to child labor of any kind whatsoever. The company has an established track record standing for justice and equity for all including five plus years with Milk with Dignity supporting migrant workers,” the company told Fox digital.

But Kaepernick’s ‘Know Your Rights’ has remained silent on the issue, flaming the controversy further. The free agent QB is a polarizing figure in the NFL universe.

The face of racial justice

Colin Kaepernick became the face of racial justice and protest in America back in 2016 when he took a knee during the national anthem on the field.  He did that regularly during the preseason and the regular season games in the 2016 season. And incidentally, that became his last season as an NFL player till date.

He never got back on the field in the NFL after that season but became a prominent face of protest. His protest was mainly against racial injustice and police shootings. Since then, he has got a few practice opportunities with NFL teams but hasn’t got a contract. But now, even his activism is facing criticism.

Will Kaepernick come out and break his silence on the issue? The fans would really want to hear what he has to say on the matter.
