While with the New England Patriots, Brady had said that “his goal was to play for ten more years and retire. Then he wanted to focus on having a family.” The NFL world is fully aware of how that promise turned out in the future.

So Why did Tom Brady renege on his commitment?

In 2006, TB12 had won 3 Super Bowls with Bill Belichick’s New England Patriots, including back-to-back championships in 2003 and 2004. When Tom Brady made the promise to former wife Gisele and said he’ll hang up his cleats in 10 years, the 15x Pro Bowler thought he’ll rack up two or three more by the time his promise’s deadline arrived in 2016.

However, the Manning brothers seriously disrupted Brady’s plans and stopped Brady from winning his fourth Super Bowl until 2015. Eli Manning and the NY Giants defeated Tom Terrific’s New England side in two Super Bowls in 2008 and 2012. Big brother Peyton Manning trumped Brady in 3 AFC Championship games in 2005 as a Colt, and in 2013 and 2015, from the Denver Broncos.

When Brady finally won his 4th Super Bowl against the Seattle Seahawks in 2015, he had only one year left on his promise to Gisele Bundchen. And TB12 realized that he wanted to keep winning. This ultimately served to be the last nail in the coffin for Brady’s and Bündchen’s relationship.
