The blockbuster trade of Matthew Stafford to the LA Rams took everyone by surprise. While the Detroit Lions were vocal about their decision to trade the QB, no one expected the trade package they ended up with.

Jared Goff, 2 future first-round picks, and a 2021 third-round pick is a massive package for any quarterback. But the Rams weren’t the only ones trying to pull off the trade. In fact, multiple other franchises were in the loop as well.

And former Indianapolis Colts punter Pat McAfee had a field day recreating some of the drama surrounding Stafford’s trade.

During a segment of his show, McAfee talked about just how entertaining the situation surrounding Stafford’s trade was before it went down.

“A lot of conversations. You see, the (Carolina) Panthers, Washington Football Team, and the Colts involved. The Rams as well. I assume that was a pretty entertaining thing.”

The drama surrounding the trade was such that McAfee wishes there was a film crew recording every step along the way.

“I heard it was awesome down there watching who was going to get him. It was almost like a horse race… That is something I wish we could have potentially had cameras on to kind of see who’s going where,” he said.

“There’s a lobby potentially it’s like, ‘Alright, now we’re going to jump into the Los Angeles Rams lobby’. The Detroit Lions are thinking, ‘Okay, we will mute here, turn off the camera. We will FaceTime now,” he said.

“Then you’re going back to the Colts… Mute that, go ahead and turn the camera off. FaceTime again with McVay and Les Snead. And then the Lions are like, ‘No, not good enough’.

“Let’s go back to the Rams and see if we can get them… what have you got? ‘Take Goff, two first-round picks and a third-round pick’. And Bingo, you got Matt Stafford.”
