A detailed insight into Patrick Mahomes’ 10-year extension with Kansas City Chiefs

NFL insider, Adam Schefter was the first reporter to break the news of Patrick Mahomes’ 10-year contract extension. He appeared on the NFL show ‘Get Up’ on Tuesday to share his two cents on the whole situation.

“There are a lot of different layers to it (Patrick Mahomes’ contract). First of all, we’re in a pandemic where there are very few players signed to long-term extensions.

“Take a look around the league and look at the lack of deals right now. Guys like Dak Prescott, Deshaun Watson, Joey Bosa, and Jalen Ramsey. A lot of players looking for a deal but no one close to one.

“Here comes Patrick Mahomes with the richest contract in NFL history. Both sides wanted to get it done. They are staggering numbers in many ways for Patrick Mahomes. But if you can believe it, that’s actually a ‘team-friendly’ deal’,” Schefter said.

“Then, the 10-year extension for $450 million, an average of $45 million kicks in. It allows the Chiefs to do what they want, moving forward,” added Schefter. Mahomes has been a focal point of the Chiefs’ offense since becoming a starter in 2018.

He has a pass completion percentage of 65.9% from 31 games in the NFL. Mahomes threw for 4,031 yards last year as compared to his 2018 NFL MVP season where he threw for an impressive 5,097 yards.

Mahomes also boasts a 4-1 record in the NFL playoffs which shows how big of an asset he is to Andy Reid and the Chiefs.
