The era of quarterbacks is always changing with time in the NFL. Just a few years back, the fierce rivalry between NFL GOAT Tom Brady and the Manning brothers are stories that still echo throughout this day. Even New York Giants legend Eli Manning was able to defeat Tom Brady twice to clinch the Lombardi Trophy during his tenure. And now the QB scenario is changing once again.

This generation knows Patrick Mahomes as one of the best QBs to play in the league currently. But Eli Manning’s successor Daniel Jones is also seen as a good QB in the league. He had his best season recently, leading the team to the playoffs and performing spectacularly. This led to the Giants signing a 4-year $160 million extension with the QB. And it seems that even Manning has given his seal of approval on Jones’ development with the Giants.

It is a fact that Eli Manning is a Giants legend, leading the team to two super bowl rings during his tenure as a QB. Before retiring in 2020, the team acquired Daniel Jones as the backup to Manning in the first round of the 2019 Draft. And over the years, it seems that Manning is positive of Jones emerging as his worthy successor for the Giants.

During a recent interview, the 2X Super Bowl winner was questioned about his opinions on Daniel Jones being a franchise QB for the team. Eli Manning approved Jones as the QB1, stating, “I think he’s been handling it well these four years. Each year he’s made improvements. He’s seen things he needs to work on. He’s fixed them. He comes on last year, plays his best year, heads to the playoffs, and wins a playoff game.” Manning went on to state that he believes his 26-year-old QB successor “can win the big games”, making him hopeful of maybe leading the team to Super Bowl glory once again.

Jones was aiming for Mahomes like money

Before the start of the free agency this year, the Giants agreed to a four-year $160 million extension with Jones. This means that Jones will be earning $40 million as an annual salary, just $5 million less than Chiefs 2X Super Bowl-winning QB Patrick Mahomes. But the decision was made after heavy negotiations, as Jones and his representative were proposing a $47 million per year contract, which is more than Mahomes and the initial $35 million per year offer from the team. But after agreeing to meet each other in the middle, it is time for Jones to prove himself worthy of such a lucrative net worth, and help the team relive the days of glory just like the era of Eli Manning.
