Right now, Patrick Mahomes is at such a point in his career that every quarterback would dream of. He is young, energetic, and already a Super Bowl Champion with a huge fan base and a lucrative contract to take care of his future. Recently, the legendary coach Sean Payton spoke about his inclination toward the Chiefs QB, calling him the best passer in the NFL.

After winding up his head coaching responsibilities with the Saints, Payton is now a free man. He can speak about his likes and dislikes without any restrictions. Recently, the 58-year-old marked his appearance in Colin Cowherd’s show, where he called Patrick Mahomes the best QB in the NFL.

“He’s the best. There’s no argument,” Payton said before making an honest admission after trying to draft the Texas Tech product in 2017. His recent comments seem to have links with his old statements for the quarterback.

A few years ago, Payton affirmed to have been impressed with his work ethic and his gunslinger attitude. “I felt like it was the best quarterback I had ever seen on tape in a workout. I had done a lot of them to that point. You name it.”

“He reminded me of Favre because he had that, not just gunslinger, but he could torque his body, and he could create speed on the ball without his feet having to be set, or perfectly set,” the former coach said on the show. Meanwhile, he revealed that if the Chiefs hadn’t gone for Mahomes, the Saints were waiting to pick him as 11th overall in the 2017 NFL draft.

However, it was a win-win situation for the Saints as they chose cornerback Marshon Lattimore, who later became the defensive Rookie of the Year. Payton spent most of his career fostering a future hall of Famer, Drew Brees, and he was planning to have Mahomes continue the legacy. It seems that was the only regret Payton had before hanging up his cleats.
