Patrick Mahomes recently led the Chiefs’ offense without the proper gear required for a quarterback. Mahomes didn’t wear his mouthguard that he wore during his first two seasons in the NFL and Patrick’s loyal fan base was quick to rebuke the quarterback.

Patrick Mahomes set the NFL world on fire in his first two seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs. Mahomes became the fastest player in NFL history to reach 5000, 10,000, and 15,000 passing yards. The 3X Pro Bowler is also the youngest quarterback ever to win a Super Bowl MVP, along with many other mind-blowing records. Surely the mouthguard worked in Mahomes’ favor.

Kansas City Chiefs reached the Super Bowl after 50 years in Patrick Mahomes’ second year as a quarterback. The Warrior Chiefs defeated the 49ers 31-20 to cement Mahomes’ legacy as a quarterback. Some fans were worried about the MVP’s safety when they saw him without a mouthguard.

Mouth guards, although mandatory at college level football, are not compulsory according to NFL regulations. Some fans think this is highly unsafe for the players.

Kansas City Chiefs fans don’t want their no.15 to go down because of injuries after reaching two Super Bowls in the last three years.

Some thought the pressure situation during the game made the mouth guard fall out of Mahomes’ mouth.

Will Patrick Mahomes need the extra security this season?

Kansas City Chiefs are sitting at the top of the AFC West currently with a 5-2 record. However, the Chiefs have had their share of injuries this season. Tight end Blake Bell and offensive tackle Lucas Niang are out with injuries putting even more pressure on the Mahomes and TE Travis Kelce-led offense.

Patrick Mahomes is also more likely to be tackled or sacked this season because of fewer passing options. After the trade of wide receiver Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins, the 2018 NFL MVP has been solely dependent on Kelce and WR JuJu Smith-Schuster. However, with the arrival of a young Kadarius Toney from the NY Giants, Mahomes should have more throwing options before the defense gets to him.

Hard to predict the future, but Patrick Mahomes will definitely need his mouthguard when they go against King Henry and the 5-2 Tennessee Titans after this bye week.
