The New England Patriots are currently in the middle of a quarterback controversy. Mac Jones made his return as the staring quarterback against the Chicago Bears for their Week 7 match-up. He was taken off in the second quarter itself. And all the attention went to the other quarterback, Bailey Zappe. The moment which garnered much of the attention from fans was to see Zappe sing along to ‘Stacey’s Mom’ by the band Fountains of Wayne.

While the offense was patiently waiting for their turn to get the ball. Zappe, the new quarterback on the block, was singing along with the stadium speakers. At the time, the hit song by Fountains of Wayne, ‘Stacey’s Mom’, was on. And a video surfaced of the player singing the song as well. After the match, the 23 years old confirmed that he was indeed singing the song only. And when asked more about it, he said he just knew the chorus of the song. “I don’t remember where I heard it from. So when it came on, the only bit I know is ‘Stacy’s mom has got it going on.’ That’s really about it.” explained Zappe.

Since the moment has gone viral, The Band from New Jersey is not quite pleased with a Patriots’ quarterback being associated with their song. They expressed this through a tweet of their own.

After a poor start to the season, Mac Jones found himself struggling with an ankle injury. This catapulted Zappe into the starting position. The New England Patriots drafted the player in the 4th round this year. In 4 games, he has thrown for 781 yards and 5 TDs and 3 interceptions as well. However, as a starter, he has a record of 2-0 in the league, which is all a good thing for the Patriots.

On the other hand, one can not forget the impressive start to Mac Jones’ career as a rookie. He earned a Pro Bowl selection is his first season as a starter. Patriots even used their first-round pick to draft the highly rated prospect last year.

While Jones was taken off early in the second quarter after throwing a pick, Zappe came to the forefront and lead the team to two consecutive TDs. However, his efforts would not spur them forward after that. The team failed to score any more points and fell to the Chicago Bears, losing 14-33. While fans are not sure who they want to see as the QB1, even HC Bill Belichick has not named any starting quarterback until now.
