Brandon Brooks announced his sudden retirement on Wednesday. The three-time Pro Bowl winner has decided to hang up his boots after playing for 10 years in the NFL. The news has saddened Philadelphia Eagles’ fans. But it comes as no surprise considering the injuries the right guard was dealing with for the past three years.

From Houston to Philadelphia, Brooks has won the hearts of football fans from all over the country. It is always shocking to see a player this good retire at a young age. The former Super Bowl winner is just 32.

The career of Brandon Brooks in the NFL

Brandon Brooks was a third-round draft pick. The Houston Texans selected him in the 2012 draft. Brandon started his career at the age of 22. He spent his first four seasons in Texas. 

In 2016, the right guard signed with the Eagles. Philadelphia brought him in from free agency for a 5-year deal worth $40 million. Brook became a crucial part of the Eagles squad. From 2017 to 2019, he made three straight Pro Bowl appearances.

Brandon Brooks was the key that helped Philadelphia Eagles win their one and only Super Bowl in 2018. The Eagles defeated The Patriots with a score of 41–33 to win the big one. The Milwaukee native had been suffering from injuries for the last three years. In 2018, Brooks tore his right Achilles tendon. He recovered quickly and played all the games in 2019. After another injury in 2020, Brooks missed the entire season. 

The Eagles have recently reworked Brooks’ contract. They reduced his salary and capped over $12 million. This might be one of the reasons why Brandon decided to retire.

In the middle of the week, we learned that the Eagles star is done after playing for 10 years. Brandon realized a lengthy statement on his Twitter. With the caption, “After 10 years I’d like to announce my retirement from the [NFL]. Thank you to all for everything.”

Brooks did thank every single name that has helped him along his journey. The sudden retirement might be shocking and sad, but the fans understand. For now, Brandon Brooks says goodbye to the NFL.
