Patrick Mahomes has won the hearts of the Chiefs kingdom and beyond in the last six years. That is thanks to his performance for the Kansas City Chiefs on the field and his cool demeanor off of it. Most fans see him as a baby-faced QB who wouldn’t get angry at anyone at all. But the Chiefs head coach Andy Reid does not hold that opinion after coaching him for more than half a decade in Kansas City.

Remember the playoff game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in the divisional round this year? Reid recalled giving his QB some medical advice on the sidelines. And Mahomes didn’t appreciate his coach’s words at all. In fact, according to Reid, Mahomes might have just wanted to kill him then and there.

Andy Reid recalls Patrick Mahomes’ anger

Like most fans, Rich Eisen sees Patrick Mahomes as an adorable person. So when he spoke to the Chiefs HC Andy Reid, he had to confirm his hypothesis. To Eisen’s surprise, Reid recalled a time when the legendary coach thought his QB would kill him.

“Yeah, probably when I told him to go get his ankle x-rayed. I mean he probably wanted to kill me. It was pretty red at that time, you know what I’m saying Rich, he was upset. But he’s competitive,” Reid said on the ‘Rich Eisen Show’.

Mahomes had hurt his ankle during the divisional round against the Jaguars last season. The coaching staff took him off for a while and got an x-ray of the injury. Although he did come back in the second half, Mahomes wasn’t happy going off in a playoff game even for a minute. And by the looks of it, he let his head coach know about that. But the coaching staff was right in taking him off for a while. Even the team doctor assumed the worst when it first happened.

The team doctor’s reaction

Patrick Mahomes ankle injury could have derailed the Chiefs’ Super Bowl run. And even the team’s orthopedic surgeon Dr. J Paul Schroeppel assumed the worst. Watching Mahomes go off the field was ominous at best and scary if one was a Chiefs fan. For the Jaguars, it was a dream scenario.

“I (initially) thought the worst for sure. We knew pretty early that he had a good chance to come back from this in a timely matter. His imaging and everything suggested that, as well. It’s one of those things generally you can rehab and do OK with for a lot of people,” Dr. Schroeppel said of the injury.

Well, he did come back and led the team to a 27-20 win to make it to the AFC championship game. The rest, as they say, is history. With that injury, Mahomes played the rest of the postseason, including the Super Bowl but he still took his team to the ultimate glory.
