Jalen Hurts put up a historic 4 touchdown Super Bowl performance last Sunday at State Farm Arena. However, that wasn’t enough for the Philadelphia Eagles as they fell 35-38 to the Kansas City Chiefs. But that, in no way, undermines Hurts’ contributions. And according to Adam Schefter, Philly might have some good news for the 24-year-old.

The NFL Insider said that the Eagles could be open to offering a fresh deal to their star quarterback. Jalen finished second to only Patrick Mahomes in the MVP voting this year. And Schefter thinks the former Oklahoma and Alabama QB can land a $45 million a year contract this off-season.

Will the Birds close down on Jalen Hurts?

The Eagles QB is entering the final year of his current rookie contract and the Eagles will only have a cap hit of $4.8 million if he decides to honor it. However, Philly may be smart to lock down what looks like a potential franchise quarterback in Jalen Hurts.

Also, the Lamar Jackson and Baltimore Ravens episode is getting messier each day. And Philly may not want to join the same club. “It would be an upset if that deal didn’t get done this off-season. However, the advantage that the Eagles have enjoyed of having Jalen Hurts on a minimum-wage rookie contract is going to go away. All those free agents out there will be more difficult to afford once Jalen Hurts gets north of $45 million. And to me, that’s the starting point,” Schefter said on ESPN’s NFL Live.

However, fans had quite a mixed reaction to the potential max-signing. And with Joe Burrow and Action Jackson also expecting new contracts, things are bound to get exciting in the coming weeks.

But Hurts surely deserves the extension

Jalen, in only his second season as a starter, has flown the Eagles to consecutive playoff appearances, only falling short at the finish line to the Chiefs this year. Also, this season the Eagles QB has broken a few records doing that.

Hurts became the first QB in Super Bowl history to throw for 300 yards with a 70% passing accuracy. Also, he became the first player since Terrell Davis of the Denver Broncos to run for three touchdowns in the championship game. His 8 postseason TDs this year top the Eagles QB all-time list. And his 18 rushing TDs as a quarterback this season is an all-time NFL record.
