“Raheem Morris Is Your Guy”: Sean McVay Wants to See His Rams’ Defensive Coordinator Ascend to HC Role

Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay appeared visibly surprised while showering praise onto his defensive coordinator Raheem Morris, who wasn’t hired for a head coaching position. The Super Bowl-winning coach McVay was praising Morris, who was part of the Rams’ dream run to the Super Bowl. The league witnessed many coordinators across NFL teams applying for open head coaching positions, and McVay lost his OC Kevin O’Connell to the Vikings.

The Rams head coach was quite surprised with Morris not being snapped up for any vacant NFL head coaching position. McVay, while praising Morris, states, “I just think it speaks for itself. I mean, if you’re looking for a great leader, a great motivator, a great person to be able to inspire and be able to help guys reach their highest potential…Raheem Morris is your guy.

Morris developed his defensive schemes during his 3 years as a head coach with the Buccaneers. He also was an interim for the Atlanta Falcons.

McVay believes Morris is not getting the attention and call up as much as his skill-set and experience demand.

McVay noted that one of the most important and interesting things about Morris is his calmness and composure under the toughest of situations. He states that Morris rises to pressure-filled occasions while making the right calls that become the difference between winning and losing.

Morris schemed the Rams and their defensive effort to close out the Super Bowl. It will be something that will hold weight during his next turn in the interview chair. The rumors of McVay himself stepping down in a couple of seasons seems to never go away. Morris quite possibly may not have to move anywhere else to become a head coach in the NFL.

As McVay’s flirtation with life away from coaching progresses into a reality, Raheem would presumably be on the top of the list of Rams‘ head coaching candidates. But there have been instances that might not favor and improve his chances of getting the job. It will be the future that can answer that question.
