NFL fans have borne witness to the passing of many from the league over the last year. In July 2022, the football world was shaken by the death of former wide receiver Charles Johnson. Former teammates, like Tom Brady and others in the league, will undoubtedly be devastated by this update.

In what can only be described as heartbreaking, the WR was found unresponsive in a hotel room. Johnson was pronounced dead on the scene. After nine seasons in the league, Johnson mentioned that he had suffered multiple injuries. But, according to reports, the reason for his passing had nothing to do with the injuries, and it was a suicide.

Tom Brady and NFL fans grieved by the recent update on Johnson’s death
After the autopsy, medical examiners said that the former Super Bowl champion died by suicide. Although the former Patriots star had no active prescriptions, oxycodone, hydrocodone and mirtazapine were found in his system. According to the New York Post, the former NFL star’s death was caused by an apparent overdose.

Johnson witnessed Brady’s first Super Bowl win
Before Johnson was found in his hotel room on July 17 of last year, his wife reported him missing. The WR, who was on Tom Brady’s Super Bowl-winning squad in 2002, was mourned by the league. Brady and Johnson were teammates on the New England Patriots squad and took home a Super Bowl title together.
