Reporter Reveals Cleveland Browns Will Hold On To Baker Mayfield as New Developments Take Time with Seahawks & Panthers

Cleveland Browns QB Baker Mayfield’s future is stuck, and there has been no outcome of the trade he had requested. According to the Cleveland.com reporter Mary Kay Cabot, the Browns are not looking to cut loose Baker Mayfield. The Seahawks and the Panthers have kept their eye on the Brown’s QB, but no new agreement has been made.
Carolina Panthers came up with the talks about trading Baker with the Browns. But, the team still hasn’t come to a mutual agreement among themselves, and the chances of Baker joining the Panthers remain low.

The Charlotte Observer had stated that were trade talks between the Panthers and the Browns during the NFL draft. The two parties couldn’t come to a conclusion, and the deal went off. Carolina wanted the Browns to pay $13-14 million of Mayfield’s 2022 salary.
In March, Baker had told ESPN’s Adam Schefter, “It’s in the mutual interest of both sides for us to move on. The relationship is too far gone to mend. It’s in the best interests of both sides to move on.” Baker had confirmed he had formally requested a trade deal, which the Browns later rejected.

The Browns have signed a 5-year deal worth $230 million with the former Texan’s QB Deshaun Watson. They also acquired Jacoby Brissett as a backup to Watson. Despite having the two quarterbacks, the Browns have still held on to Baker Mayfield. What are the Browns planning for Mayfield, who happened to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft?

Browns owe Baker Mayfield $18 million this season
Seattle Seahawks is another team looking forward to acquiring Mayfield as a free agent, but only if the Browns release him. The Seahawks do not seem to be interested in trading Mayfield.

Mayfield is one of the highest-paid quarterbacks, but he has shown inconsistent performance. He started in 14 games in the last season and threw for 3010 yards with only 17 touchdown passes. Mayfield has one year left in his contract with the Browns, who owe him $18.9 million. Mayfield was injured in Week 2 of the game last year against the Houston Texans. He had to go for surgery to repair a torn Labrum on his left shoulder.
