The Chicago Bears have cleared a major hurdle in getting a new home. The board of trustees of the village, where the NFL franchise wants the new stadium, has approved the pre-construction plan. So, the $5 billion plan is finally in motion after months of speculation.

The approved plan is not binding but is still the first concrete step towards a new home for the Bears.

Arlington Heights approves plan

The Village Board of Arlington Heights has approved the Chicago Bears project at the racetrack site in Arlington. The approved plans contain the details of zoning and taxation. The vote of the Village Board is non-binding, but the Bears administration has termed it as an agreement in good faith.

“This is not a binding obligation or either part, that it is a good faith agreement to work together to cooperate towards the exploration of the redevelopment of this property,” Cliff Stein, Senior Vice President of the franchise, said in a statement.

The Bears presented the plan to the board in October but there were apprehensions about it. Some reports even suggested that the plan could be rejected. But now that the hurdle has been crossed, the Bears could close the deal for the land by the end of 2022 or the start of 2023.

The Chicago Bears this season

The Chicago Bears may be getting a new home but first, they are looking for results on the pitch. The team is struggling this season. They have won just three of the nine games played so far this season. The Bears last won a game against the New England Patriots in game week seven.

In the last game against the Miami Dolphins, the team fought hard. But they lost the game by three points after a spirited performance. The Bears QB Justin Fields did not get much yardage in the game, but he was clinical in the end zone. The QB threw three touchdown passes in the game.

The Bears sit third on the NFC North table after week nine. The playoffs seem a distant dream as the Minnesota Vikings look set to win the divisional round this year. They have won seven out of the eight games they have played. The Bears will take on divisional rivals Detroit Lions in the next game. The Lions are last on the table.

With the stadium plans out of the way, maybe the Bears rally themselves and produce a string of good performances for their fans.
