Since Jimmy Garoppolo got injured and had to sit most of the season out, his place on the team has been contentious. First, Garoppolo injured his calf but later had to undergo a shoulder injury. Surprisingly, the shoulder surgery came out of nowhere and took the 49ers’ management aback. However, with the offseason about to conclude soon, the 49ers provide a huge update regarding the QB’s trade.

Earlier, Garoppolo’s agent, Don Yee, clarified that Jimmy G is looking to trade. He also quashed rumors of the 49ers’ QB reuniting with the NFL GOAT Tom Brady in the Buccaneers. But his trade still has loose ends, as he has no fixed landing spot. Even though the mandatory minicamps have concluded and teams are finalizing their rosters, there is still hope for the QB.

In a recent tweet, a senior NFL insider from ESPN, Adam Schefter, dropped a massive update regarding Jimmy G’s trade. He tweeted that the 49ers have permitted the QB’s agents to seek trade officially. Moreover, Garoppolo has also been cleared to practice after his shoulder surgery.

In addition, Garoppolo’s shoulder injury is the biggest concern for any team in the NFL. Before his trade talks begin, teams would be keen to know how well has he recovered and if he will be available to start a game. Although all the teams have cemented a starting QB in their lineup, Garoppolo would have to make inroads ahead of the existing QB if he wants to cement his place.

Potential landing spots for Jimmy Garoppolo

Jimmy G is set to make $26.95 million off his contract, which includes $1.4 million for signing bonus proration. Therefore, teams looking to offer him a position must have significant space left in their purse to pay off his salary after negotiating with the 49ers. Moreover, the team probably most in need of a starting QB is the Seattle Seahawks.

However, it is unusual for teams to trade with divisional rivals. Both the 49ers and the Seahawks are in the NFC West. Additionally, Seattle doesn’t have the cap room for him either. The team that can trade for Garoppolo is the Browns. Considering a lengthy suspension for Deshaun Watson, the Browns might be interested in getting a starting QB in their lineup.

If the Browns go green for the trade, The QB would have to take a pay cut to make the deal happen. Otherwise, he will remain hanging in the grey area, which isn’t a pleasant place for any QB of Garoppolo’s caliber.
