REPORTS: Uncertainty Surrounding Pittsburgh Steelers QB1 Continues After Reports Suggest Kenny Pickett May Get Snubbed

The Pittsburgh Steelers have some major quarterback competition on their roster this year. Mitch Trubisky, Mason Rudolph, and Kenny Pickett will be in an all-out training war which could lead into the preseason. The uncertainty regarding the position is continuing. However, reports suggest that new draftee Kenny Pickett could be out of the starting race.

The lack of assurance towards the Pittsburgh Steelers’ QB1 position continues to bloom. New draftees are showcasing their potential in every sector of the starting lineup. Even Kendrick Green and Kevin Dotson are competing for left guard. The franchise is still experimenting with newcomers on the roster.

The Steelers favor Mitch Trubisky and Mason Rudolph over Kenny Pickett and Chris Oladokun. It’s unclear why the rookies aren’t getting the ball at the quarterback position. According to Andrew Fillipponi, a Steelers source believes Kendrick Green has a better tendency to be promoted to the starting lineup.

He mentions, “You’re not going to like this (talking to me). But I think Kendrick Green has a better chance at winning a starting job in camp than Kenny Pickett.”

The team is concentrating on Pickett and Oladokun, who may study the offense before attending drills and passing sessions with the top names. Moreover, Mason Rudolph and Mitt Trubisky, according to Mark Kaboly of The Athletic, are “winners.” But he holds Pickett as the “loser” in the Steelers’ quarterback battle. 

Kenny Pickett: One of Combine’s big stories

Pitt’s Kenny Pickett’s hand evaluated 8 1/2 inches in the Combine. Since 2003, that’s tied for the third smallest hand measurement for a QB, and it’s less than the nine-inch benchmark. The shorthand hasn’t demotivated the QB. He has a double-jointed thumb and is continuing to work on becoming football ready. 

Pickett has done an excellent job in the role, particularly in the last year. He completed 62.4 percent of his passes for 12,303 yards, 32 interceptions, and 81 touchdowns during his time in Pittsburgh. Despite the smaller hand size, the Heisman Trophy contender shined at his collegiate level.

If we look into Joe Burrow’s incident, his hand was 9 inches. Despite that, he took a downtrodden team to the league’s grandest stage in the most effective comeback run. Just like him, there’s nothing to be disheartened about for QB Kenny. He could be the next big thing for the Steelers someday.
