REPORTS: Urban Meyer Will Return to Football But To Reprise Broadcast Role

Prior to the start of the last season, the Jacksonville Jaguars announced Urban Meyer as their new head coach. Urban is considered one of the best head coaches in the history of college football. There were high expectations set for him to perform in the NFL.

The Jaguars drafted Trevor Lawrence with the 1st overall pick in NFL Draft 2021. There was a sense around the franchise that Urban would help in the development of Trevor. The former Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence was one of the most hyped college players to enter the NFL in recent years. As a result, the future in Jacksonville looked very bright.

However, nothing went according to the plan. There were continuous controversies around the team involving their head coach Urban Meyer. In addition, he wasn’t able to develop Trevor Lawrence in a way that many people expected. As a result, the team wasn’t playing well at all.

Urban Meyer, the three-time national champion in college football, was fired in just 11 months after coaching for a mere total of 11 games. Undoubtedly, this was a big dent in the legacy of Meyer. However, he is about to make a return to football as a broadcaster ahead of next season.

Urban Meyer to return with FOX Sports

According to reports, the former Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer will be making his way back to Fox Sports. Both the parties are currently in negotiations, and a deal might be close.

Prior to getting the head coach job in the NFL, Urban worked as one of the analysts on Fox’s Show “Big Noon Kickoff.” There is a possibility that FOX would want Urban to be a part of their crew that focuses on College Football.

Earlier this year, Urban during his appearance on the Tim May Podcast, talked about a potential return to Fox Sports as a broadcaster. He said, “That’s all still in conversation, I love Fox, I love their team, I love their guys. There’s nothing that’s been finalized yet, but yeah I plan on going back and doing it.”

Urban, who is one of the most popular faces of College football, certainly has a good knowledge of the sport. As a result, he would be a good fit for the organization. This will be a fresh start for Urban Meyer, and he would like to keep his unpleasant experience of coaching in the NFL behind him.
