Rookie Of the Year Favorite Ja’Marr Chase on Former LSU Coach: ‘Les Miles Told Me He Thought I Could Play Cornerback’

Ja’Marr Chase has had quite a start to his NFL career. He has broken the record for the most receiving yards by a rookie previously held by Justin Jefferson. And is also the top contender for the Rookie of the Year honor. He is also just one win away from reaching his first Super Bowl in his first-ever season as a pro football player.

The No. 5 overall 2021 NFL Draft pick also ended his regular season totaling 81 receptions for 1,455 yards and 13 touchdowns. Furthermore, his partnership with former LSU teammate, Joe Burrow has proved to be one of the most productive QB-WR duos in the league this season.

“I can tell you honestly, one of my best stories ever. Les Miles told me I couldn’t play receiver when I was coming out of high school,” Chase explained. “So that was something I had on my shoulders growing up. Les Miles told me he thought I could play cornerback.”

“I wasn’t really at the full position of receiver yet, so I just kept working at my craft in the offseason, waking up early in the mornings to work out. I just kept focused.”

Chase has been the prime prospect for the Bengals during the playoffs. During the postseason he has totaled 14 catches for 225 yards. He is going to be a great threat to the Kansas City Chiefs during the AFC Conference Championship Game. The Chiefs will be ready to host the Bengals and make crucial arrangements in their plans to stop the rookie receiver from scoring.
