Experienced NFL wide receiver Tyler Lockett was drafted by Seattle Seahawks in 2015. He was a 3rd-round pick (69th overall). Since making his debut that season, Lockett has been an omnipresent entity in the regular-season for Peter Carroll’s side. In 71 starts, Lockett has 4,892 receiving yards with 37 receiving TDs to his name.
He was pivotal for the Seahawks last season as they made it to the NFL Playoffs, with 1,054 and 10 receiving TDs. Along with rising star DK Metcalf, Lockett was one of quarterback Russell Wilson’s most trusted teammates in the Emerald City offense.
Now, the Seattle Seahawks have rewarded their loyal soldier with a new bumper contract extension.
The 28-year-old Tyler Lockett was one of the focal points in the offense for coach Carroll’s offense last year. He was offered a 4-year extension worth a reported $69.2 million contract extension that includes $37 million guaranteed. He is scheduled to pocket an annual compensation at $17.3 million.
One of the first people to congratulate him was superstar teammate Russell Wilson.
Coach Carroll was all praise for Lockett last year while admitting, “He’s a phenomenal, phenomenal football player.”
Wilson and Lockett enjoyed great success playing alongside each other over the last 6 years. The latter was entering the final year of his 3-year extension signed in 2018, which was $31.8 million.
As per Sporttrac, the $17.3 million new-money average in Lockett’s extension ranks 10th among NFL wide receivers. In 2020, Lockett and DK Metcalf became only the second pair of Seahawks receivers in franchise history to each top 1,000 yards in the same year.
He also had the most productive game of his career with 15 catches for 200 yards and 3 touchdowns in the game against Arizona Cardinals.
Seahawks Fans will hope that Lockett can replicate the same form in the coming months as well.
