Taysom Hill and Jameis Winston are set to battle in pre-season to see who will be the starting quarterback. Seeking an edge over Hill, Winston is looking for a rebrand for his role as the quarterback of the team.

New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston addressed his role with the franchise recently. He noted that he was hesitant last year to take the role of a game manager.

But upon further reflection, Winston thinks that he is perfectly suited for the role. For Winston, he thinks a game manager role will allow him to showcase not only his skills but his decision-making ability.

“I never wanted to be deemed a game manager… But really, that game manager is not a bad piece. That’s something that I think just comes with being a professional quarterback.

“Being able to not just only do the things that you can do, but being able to do the things that you should not do — like what not to do versus what can I do.”

Jameis Winston ready to claim the starting QB spot

Winston has a tough battle ahead of him going forward. While he has shown in the past that he is a good thrower of the ball, he is very error prone.

Winston remains the only quarterback in NFL history to have thrown 30 touchdowns and 30 interceptions in the same season. Whereas, Taysom Hill has had more recent experience as the starting quarterback in the Saints’ system.

Last year, Drew Brees went down early in the season due to a rib injury. In his absence, Taysom Hill established himself as the favorite to be the starting quarterback.

Hill impressed the franchise officials greatly. And after Drew Brees was deemed fit, Hill would continue to get more minutes during the game to give Brees his rest.

Who will be the starting quarterback for the New Orleans Saints in Week 1? Currently, Hill has the advantage over Jameis Winston, having impressed Head Coach Sean Payton during his time deputizing for Drew Brees.

However, Jameis Winston changing his role and profile could be the edge he needs going into training camp to establish himself as the favorite to start.
