Sean McVay was running a high tide for most of February. He won the Super Bowl LVI and culminated the first half of his coaching career. By the end of February, though, things probably started turning surreal like they were for many parts of the world.

The Ukrainian Crisis has hit close to home for McVay. His fiancee, Veronika Khomyn, is from Ukraine. And she has family still residing in the war-ridden country. During a recent video conference with LA GM Les Snead, the 36-year-old coach opened up about how the current crisis is a personal one.

McVay said, “My thoughts and prayers are with Ukraine,”  As reported by the LA Times, it was a big contrast between when we saw him at his cheery best during the parade, and now. The energetic young Rams’ coach was not his usual self while addressing the media.

The head coach continued, “This obviously hits home with me. … Just watching the grace at which she’s handled this, how strong her family’s been in the midst of this, I’m just so proud to be associated with that culture.

President Zelensky’s leadership has been incredible. This is real type of stuff right here and it gives you really a perspective. … My thoughts and prayers are with so many people that are unfortunately affected by this terrible time.”

Sean McVay and the LA Rams decided to skip the NFL Combine this year. McVay commented on the decision saying, “Les and I felt like our time would be best utilized staying back, being able to do some things and there’s a lot of layers to that… You don’t want to minimize the value of combine but for us, that’s what we felt like was going to be the best approach.”

The reports suggest that there are some really good Wide Receivers in the draft. With Odell out till at least the playoffs, the Rams can target a good player in the fourth round or trade-up if they believe in someone. Robert Woods will come back to the squad this season.
