The reigning Super Bowl champions Los Angeles Rams are in a QB crisis. Their first choice QB Matthew Stafford is facing the prospect of another concussion protocol after going out in the New Orleans Saints game. With his backup John Wolford also injured, the Rams may need a new weapon. And that is exactly what head coach Sean McVay is looking for.

Wolford practiced with the team in a limited manner on Monday while Stafford is still under evaluation. Who plays QB against the Kansas City Chiefs is a big question. And McVay is looking for answers.

The Matthew Stafford concern

The Rams QB Matthew Stafford left the field due to another concussion in week 11. The Saints defense sacked Stafford for a 9-yard loss in the third quarter. Bryce Perkins replaced him to complete the game as the backup QB John Wolford is dealing with a neck injury. But McVay has indicated that if Stafford goes into another concussion protocol, the Rams may end up signing a QB.

Stafford entered the concussion protocol after the Rams’ week nine loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He missed the week 10 loss against the Arizona Cardinals. Wolford played that game but sustained a neck injury that has limited him in practice. Stafford came back in week 11 and has another concussion scare.  Hence the new QB talk.

Title defense gone astray

The Los Angeles Rams started this season with high expectations. And why not, they had won the Super Bowl last season. But the current season hasn’t gone well for the reigning Vince Lombardi holders. The loss to the Saints was their fourth straight loss. The team has won just three games out of the 10 they have taken the field in. The title defense hasn’t really worked for them.

With a new QB crisis now, it doesn’t look like things are getting any better for the Rams. Their next game is against one of the favorites of this season, the Chiefs. And going to Kansas with a possibility of both the starting and the backup QB missing out seems ominous. Sean McVay would hope Matthew Stafford is cleared to play for that game.

The Rams are last in the NFC West table and their title defense looks to be ending in disappointment. Can they make a statement against the Chiefs in week 12?
