With the 2022 season fast approaching, the team went into a mandatory minicamp three days ago and just finished their offseason training. This camp allowed the entire team to bond and practice together, bringing team veterans, new signings, and rookies to the Seahawks’ style of play. It also allowed the coaches to assess the team before the season began, and it looks like the Seahawks’ Head Coach is pleased with what he’s seen.
Head Coach Pete Carroll had a press conference after the conclusion of the camp. He updated the media at length about the team and the state of practice. But he also had something surprising to say about his 2022 team.

Are the Seattle Seahawks really the fastest they have ever been?
HC Carroll seems to think highly of the new crop of Seahawks players. During the post-camp conference, the head coach said the team finished their offseason “on a very high note” and that it was the biggest offseason of their lives. He said, “In this camp, I wanted us to be in the performance mode rather than the practice mode.”

It seems the Seahawks squad delivered to their coach’s expectations. Carroll said, “This might be the fastest team we’ve ever had,” referring to his younger players. This comment definitely shows that the HC saw something interesting during practice that fans would hopefully see during the season. Carroll also spoke about being “really jacked” about the rookies drafted this year.

Are the Seahawks really third in speed?
While it would be difficult to rank the current Seahawks by their speed due to insufficient data, a previous ranking exists for the same. Speed is a vital attribute for the NFL. Teams that have faster players have a better chance of making it big. Fast players come into camp with something extra and could improve through consistent practice and coaching.
In this ranking, the Seahawks came at a high, 3rd place, according to their speed. DK Metcalf was named the fastest player on the team. The Seahawks came behind the Panthers and the Eagles in the list. Thus, having speed is not really new to the Seahawks. The 2022 team is unique because HC specifically mentioned their speed as an attribute we may see during the season.
