After three years of being Russell Wilson’s anonymous backup, Geno Smith finally had a shot against the Los Angeles Rams last night. After Russell Wilson got off the pitch with a gruesome finger injury, Pete Carroll handed the ball to Geno to take over the play.
However, with the Seahawks trailing the Rams by two scores, Geno was put in a tough situation altogether. But it looked like Geno came well prepared for it as he made a powerful impression on his teammates, coaches, and Seahawks fans.
Geno picked up the pace after Russell Wilson
Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said, “I went right to Geno afterward and just said, ‘You know, you’ve been waiting a long time for your opportunity, and the faith that you’ve shown in our program and in us to stay with us, I was so proud.'”
Although in the end, he failed to cover up for the points lost during the first three quarters, but he certainly managed to hold his ground against Aaron Darnold and Jalen Ramsey, unlike Russell Wilson.
Geno Smith currently leads the NFL in completion percentage (100%), QB rating (158.3) and is tied for fewest interceptions (0) thrown this season. He’s been terrific.

“It would have been a lot better if we got a win, but it meant a lot, the city has embraced me,” Smith said. “This team has embraced me, and I’m really grateful for that. I appreciate all the fans.”

“The atmosphere was just electric tonight. I mean, you could see it out there,” he added. “Everyone was fired up. I really thought we had a chance. Thought we were going to come back and get it done; unfortunately, we didn’t. But we’ll bounce back and get better.”
Smith has almost always been off the limelight by playing alongside one of the most durable quarterbacks ever, Eli Manning, Philip Rivers, and Wilson since leaving the Jets. But with his terrific fourth-quarter cameo against the Rams, questions need to be asked if he can replace Russell Wilson in the starting QB spot?
