Jimmy Williams, a 190-pounder from Vanderbilt, was the Buffalo Bills’ sixth-round selection during the 2001 NFL Draft. He stood 5 feet 11 inches tall and was among Vanderbilt’s all-time best football players. In addition, Williams proved himself as a stout special teams return ace during his NFL run. His talent and prowess made him stand out from the rest.

Seattle Seahawks suffer unfortunate loss

The Seattle Seahawks on Twitter mourned the loss of their special teams’ captain. The franchise recognized him as a member of the franchise’s Super Bowl XL team. Additionally, they also sent condolences and support to the Williams household.

The San Francisco 49ers broke the news to the public as they mourned the passing of one of their alma maters on Twitter. Williams was 43 years old. According to The Advocate, he died after combating an unknown ailment. As of this writing, the illness remains unclear. Williams was a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and played in the NFL for six seasons. He spent four with the San Francisco 49ers and two with the Seattle Seahawks. He made one Super Bowl appearance in 2005.

In 2006, he announced his retirement after a career including 151 tackles, three interceptions, and 13 pass breakups. Moreover, Williams’ high school alma mater, Baton Rouge Episcopal, inducted him into the hall of fame that same year. He returned to the school in 2011 as a teacher and coach. The most recent positions he held at Episcopal were defensive coordinator and assistant athletics director.
