Colin Kaepernick has held on to his gridiron dreams for seven long years. And he is not yet ready to give it up. Since he last donned the cleats in 2016, he’s been determined to make a comeback.

His last appearance on the field dates back to 2016 when he made headlines. The then 49ers QB took a knee during the national anthem protesting against the rampant racial discrimination and brutality of the cops against Blacks sparking widespread debates across the nation. However, his political activism was not met positively with the former QB accusing the franchise owners of blackballing him from the league. The QB had tried everything to make it back to the field to no avail. And his efforts show no sign of stopping.

Kaepernick has reached out to the New York Jets, who are going through tough times. The Jets, even after making an impressive win despite their ‘saving grace’ Aaron Rodgers ending the season with an injury, lost the last two matches with the Dallas Cowboys and the Patriots. And Kaepernick has offered his help to fill the void.

In a letter released by the rapper J Cole on his Instagram, Kaepernick addresses Jets general manager Joe Douglas and expresses his desire to join the mix and “lead the practice squad.”

“I am sure of my ability to provide you with an elite QB option if, God forbid, QB1 goes down,” Kaepernick wrote. “However, I know that there may naturally be uncertainties from you and possibly from others about my playing abilities”.

“This plan, I believe, allows me to be of great service to the team as a practice squad QB, while also giving you a low-commitment chance to assess my capabilities to help in any other capacity you may see fit.”He adds.

The former QB maintains that he has been rigorously training during his time away from the league. And it was up to the Green Gang to make the call.

The Green Gang secures the roster

The letter from  Kaepernick lays out that the worst-case scenario would be the franchise leaving unimpressed with the former QB’s action, and the best case would be landing them an essential piece in their arsenal. It also comes with a slew of references including former 49ers head coaches Jim Harbaugh and Chip Kelly, as well as Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh and Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis.

Apparently, the Green gang is not taking a gamble on Kaepernick. Certain outlets reported that the Jets have denied the possibility of bringing the former QB on the board. And in the wake of the starting QB Zach Wilson’s lackluster performance in the last two matches, the Jets have added the QB Trevor Siemian to their practice squad.

And it looks like a return to the gridiron is not going to be a walk in the park for the QB.
