Fields was one of the top prospects heading into the 2021 offseason. He threw for 2,100 yards with 22 passing TDs against 6 interceptions in 8 games last season.

However, he has reportedly fallen behind BYU’s Zach Wilson. The latter is reportedly the first-choice option for Robert Saleh’s New York Jets.

GM John Lynch and coach Kyle Shanahan made a strong statement by trading up to acquire the 3rd overall pick at the 2021 NFL Draft from Miami Dolphins last week.
They gave up 3 future 1st-round picks and a 2022 compensatory 3rd-round pick in order to move up the draft.

But critics and analysts remain unconvinced about Fields in the build-up to next month’s event. But popular American sports analyst and writer, Bill Simmons, opined otherwise.

Fields has thrown for 5,701 yards with 67 passing TDs against 9 interceptions while playing for the Georgia Bulldogs and the Ohio State Buckeyes. He led the Buckeyes to the CFP National Championship final earlier this year.

But they were outplayed by Nick Saban’s Alabama Crimson Tide Football Team. The 49ers have an important decision to make at #3 overall, whether they move for Fields, it will be interesting to see how the situation works out for the under-pressure quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.
