This offseason has set new standards for the receivers in the NFL trade market. Stefon Diggs of the Buffalo Bills has become another wideout to enter the league of highest-paid wide receivers in the history of the NFL. The 28-year-old signed a contract extension with the Bills on Wednesday.

After the Jacksonville Jaguars signed Christian Kirk to a four-year, $72 million deal, this offseason signaled crazy dealings for the wide receivers. Similarly, Tyreek Hill, Davante Adams, Amari Cooper, Mike Williams, and Chris Godwin were the other players who agreed to long-term extensions and bagged lucrative deals with the franchises.

All about Stefon Diggs’s contract extension

Despite having two years remaining in his contract, the two-time Pro-Bowl made a giant leap on Wednesday. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Diggs signed a four-year contract extension with the Bills. The deal is worth $104 million. Moreover, he will earn $70 million in guaranteed money per his new deal.

This contract has made Diggs the second-highest WR with guaranteed money of this margin, placing him just behind Tyreek Hill. The Average Annual Value (AAV) is estimated to cost around $26 million per season, making him the fourth-highest on the list of receiver contracts.

What’s more intriguing is that Diggs has two more years, according to his previous contract. While this new deal will tie him with the Bills through the 2028 season. This also implies Diggs won’t be a free agent until the 2028 offseason unless the team officially releases him.

For the next six years, Diggs’ contract is estimated to amount to $124.1 million, making him one of the most paid receivers in the league. Diggs was initially drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL draft. Later in 2020, the Bills signed him on a four-year contract.

Before Diggs signed a lucrative deal with the Bills, Tyreek Hill and Davante Adams were leading the race of expensive receivers this offseason. Adams was the first person to make a deal worth $141 million for five years. He got traded from the Green Bay Packers to the Las Vegas Raiders.

Next on the cards was Tyreek Hill, who made history in terms of salary cap by signing a 4-year contract with the Miami Dolphins. He was assured a whopping $120 million with an average annual value of $30 million per year.

When it comes to the total guaranteed money, Tyreek Hill will receive $72.2 million. Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs hopped into the second position with $70 million, while Davante Adams plunged into the third spot with $65.6 million. It was rather a clever step by the Bills to keep Diggs both longer and more affordable than his counterparts in the league.
