The 35-year-old revealed that 42% of independent restaurants that do not get government funding are in danger. They are very close to filing for bankruptcy. Even among the ones that got help from the government, 20% are going bankrupt. For some, these issues are creating generational scars. Many families are being forced to sell their homes, compromise on education or take enormous loans just to survive.
Suh says the main issues are operating hours being affected by new variants, a decrease in sales, and other difficulties faced by the owners. These difficulties include hiring problems, removal of seating, and rising prices. Running a restaurant in 2021 was not easy.

Despite all the negative impacts, the hospitality community is still fighting back. They are taking care of their employees and families. 84% of restaurants raised wages. 37% added paid sick leave benefits and 21% added paid vacation.
Yesterday was the national day of action to save restaurants. The Independent Restaurant Coalition is working to get Congress to replenish the Restaurant Revitalization Fund. It will give more funds to restaurants in need. Ndamukong Suh added a link in one of his last tweets asking his fans to fill out a form.
