Kansas City Chiefs head coach, Andy Reid, recently sat down in a candid conversation with Chris and Kyle Long, sons of Hall of Famer, former DE Howie Long, to discuss the outlook for the Kansas City Chiefs. They also talked about the 2x Super Bowl champion, Patrick Mahomes, along with the evolution of the NFL altogether. Interestingly, Reid mentioned how the squad’s offensive line coach has emerged as the game-changer as the Chiefs march into a brand new season. 

The conversation was featured on ‘Green Light with Chris Long’. The American former football defensive end co-hosts the podcast with his best friend, Macon, with several others. Reid added several comments about the offensive line coach and how his mentorship is strengthening the team’s offensive line. 

Andy Reid praised Andy Heck’s analytical game sense

On the podcast, they were talking about the situation at the offensive line positions. The conversation sprung from them talking about how they’re training the two no offensive tackles they’ve hired. Kyle Long, a 3x Pro Bowl champ, asked Reid about Andy Heck and how it’s easier for the entire group on the offensive line to have him as their coach.

To this, Big Red had a lot of things to add. He praised Heck, saying he played in the league forever and has experience of being a player. Therefore, it makes him understand everything there is to coach. Reid added, “He understands the whole mindset, he understands the longevity of the season and career and then he’s a good fundamentalist, I guess from a football standpoint.”

Additionally, he also commented that as a coach, they don’t get a lot of glory which Heck completely understands but still shows up for the bell every week. It’s not just the coach praising other coaches, Reid himself has received admiration for his coaching skills. A few weeks back, QB for Kansas City Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes applauded Reid. 

Patrick Mahomes expressed admiration for Reid

Patrick Mahomes recently appeared on the ‘AP Pro Football’ podcast with Rob Maadi. Every now and then, Mahomes is seen singing songs of praise for Reid. According to him, Reid is one of the “best people of all time.” He added that he not only gets knowledge about the game but also about how to be a good life partner. Also, how to be a good leader and how to be a good dad as well. 

Some coaches try to fit their team’s quarterbacks into a box that they feel is right but Reid never does that with Mahomes, he lets him be himself. This has greatly impacted the team as in the last 4 seasons, they’ve successfully won 2 Super Bowls.  Recently, Mahomes and Reid’s new state farm commercial spurred a conversation on the internet.
