The New England Patriots bid farewell to their long-term quarterback Tom Brady earlier this year. As a replacement, they brought in Cam Newton.
Until now, it was expected that the 31-year old would be starting for the Patriots during the upcoming NFL season. HOwever, former New England quarterback Scott Zolak believes otherwise.
Zolak is convinced that Jarrett Stidham would start instead of Newton.

Will New England Patriots prefer a second-year quarterback over an NFL MVP to start for them?
While speaking with the NBC Sports Network, the former Patriots star said that Stidham would ultimately make it into the starting lineup. If he’s right, the 23-year old might just give the former NFL MVP and three-time Pro Bowler a run for his money.
The video was later uploaded on Twitter.

Zolak said, “I believe Stidham will be starting quarterback from the people I talk to and people that I trust: the players, people tied to the team, team captains. The way they speak of Jarrett Stidham and the work he has put in.
“A lot of people thought Stidham was on a two-week vacation on a wedding tour down in Texas. He did go to a wedding and spent time with family — and he worked out every day with pro-caliber receivers. That’s what I was told.
“People thought, when the Patriots signed Cam Newton, he said, ‘I’m going to take off until practice starts. The kid worked out every day.”

Experience vs Energy: Who will win?
Is Zolak onto something here? Well, to be honest, Newton has just arrived in the New England brigade. He didn’t get enough time with the coaches and management, given that the offseason training sessions were canceled due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
In contrast, Stidham has already spent a year under the supervision of the Head Coach Bill Belichick as well as Offensive Coordinator Josh McDaniels.

In such a scenario, it is understandable that the coaching staff might choose Stidham over Newton to take over as the team’s starting quarterback. On the other hand, Newton brings a lot of experience to the table.
This is something that the Patriots will undoubtedly struggle with. It is too early to predict the starting lineup for the franchise due to the degree of indecisiveness clouding their judgment.
However, Newton is being touted as the frontrunner in this race by a number of NFL pundits, at least during the initial stage of this year’s campaign.
