First, they shocked the global sporting community by signing quarterback Patrick Mahomes for a 10-year contract worth $450 million. As if that wasn’t enough for them, the Kansas City Chiefs have stepped it up and signed defensive tackle Chris Jones in a four-year deal worth up to $85 million.
So what exactly are the Chiefs planning to achieve? Mahomes and Chris boast of contrasting qualities and positions, however, they have one thing in common, their youth. Something that the Chiefs may be looking to leverage.

Patrick Mahomes and Chris Jones are the new warriors for the Kansas City Chiefs
The reason behind the Kansas City Chiefs’ desire to tie these stars down almost indefinitely seems rather elementary. The Chiefs are gunning to fortify their stronghold and dominating position in American football and understandably so.
And in order to do that successfully, they needed someone to bolster the team’s defensive unit and insulate the lead that Mahomes would take early into the games.

Was it a premeditated strategy that the Chiefs implemented this year? Were they aiming to spend big money on these two players?
That’s exactly what the former NFL safety Louis Riddick believes. He claims that Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes had planned a lot of things together, considering how they share a common goal, to win multiple different trophies over the long run.
Chris Jones Pens Four-Year Contract Extension With Kansas City Chiefs
“Mahomes could have demanded all of Kansas City’s money”
Riddick appeared on the TV show, “Get Up”, where he spoke about the Chiefs’ new deal. The video clip of the show was later uploaded to Twitter.
The 51-year old former San Francisco 49ers player said, “Look, I think all along their General Manager Brett Veach wanted to get both of these guys signed. They had targeted both Pat and Chris, people who are without a doubt not expendable, obviously. And they wanted to get them both done and they had been working on both of these.
“The cool thing about these deals is that Pat Mahomes also understood that he could absolutely have just taken all of Kansas City’s money. All of it! He could have taken it all. He could have ruined their cap. And they would have given it to him.
“They would have tried to make it work because they knew that he was in a unique situation based on what he brings to the table and how they feel about him. But he didn’t do that. He didn’t want to do that.”

Kansas City Chiefs are building a dynasty
But why did Mahomes not demand for a heavier paycheck? Well, Riddick had an explanation on this topic. He continued, “He had the awareness of, ‘Hey look, I’m gonna be better off. I’m gonna be really able to stamp, you know, put my name on many many many different kinds of trophies here in the future, if I keep more of my guys around me’.
“So he was able to be creative with Brett Veach and their cap management team as far as the structuring of the contract so that they could get Chris so that they could keep other vital components together.
“And they could go ahead and make this round in the short term.”
He also believes that Kansas City Chiefs will undoubtedly produce some great performances in the near future. Riddick said, “Now, there would come a time when they will need to make some tough decisions.
“There might be a player or two who may fall by the wayside. But by and large; they had been planning for this. This team is poised right now to do some real damage.”

The other two are Patrick Mahomes, who will earn $140 million, and their defensive end Frank Clark making $62.3 million. The Chiefs’ roster is gaining weight, which is enough to freak out the opponents.
What remains to be seen is how far these athletes would go to prove themselves worthy of the treasure chest that they take home.
