Ever since being drafted in 2020, Trevon Diggs has been a guardian for the Cowboys’ defense. In just three seasons in the league, Diggs has 17 interceptions, 49 passes defended along with 169 tackles in 45 games. In just his second season in 2021, the 24-year-old earned his first All-Pro honors, leading the league with 11 interceptions. And now, the Cowboys have secured Trevon Diggs for a longer period of time.
According to an article by NFL.com, the Cowboys have agreed to a five-year, $97 million extension with their home-grown cornerback talent. Trevon Diggs was entering the final year of his rookie contract. He was set to become an unrestricted free agent after 2023. But now, the new extension keeps him with the team up until 2028. The new deal includes a $21.25 million signing bonus. And along with the incentives, the deal is worth up to $104 million, making Trevon Diggs the fifth-highest-paid CB in the NFL.

The Dallas Cowboys want to retain future talents
The off-season has been interesting for Jerry Jones and his team. They released their veteran RB Ezekiel Elliott, who’s been playing for the Cowboys since 2016. And now, Tony Pollard is going to take the main stage in place of Elliott on the field. And on the first day of training camp on Tuesday, Stephen Jones talked about his optimism about the team’s cap situation. The Cowboys have $20,7 million in cap space for 2023, the fourth-most in the NFL. And the executive VP said that the team is looking forward to signing extensions with Micah Parsons, CeeDee Lamb, Trevon Diggs, and Terence Steele. “We’re very motivated to sign these young guys,” Jones said during the interview, hinting that the team is building for the future.
And now, with their 24-year-old CB in the bag, it will be interesting to see whether the team can pull off the same with the remaining young talents in the coming days ahead.
