New England Patriots and quarterback Tom Brady found their most nightmarish player in safety, Bernard Pollard. He has inflicted pain on the hopes and dreams of Patriots fans on different occasions. He had a hard-hitting and rash defensive presence and a reputation for punishing players running through the middle. After spending 9 seasons in the NFL, Pollard was recently in the news following his clash with Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson.

During a recent episode of FS1’s Undisputed show, NFL analyst Skip Bayless recounted the highlights from the career of the infamous ‘Patriot Killer’. He states, “Bernard Pollard became best known and infamously known as the quote-unquote Patriot Killer. Because he was the one who knocked Tom Brady out in the opening day of the 2008 season…You can also refer to it as the Bernard Pollard rule. You cannot fall into the planted left foot of the QB.”
Bayless mentions other notable players like Rob Gronkowski, Wes Welker, and Steven Ridley in consecutive seasons. He even shares his admiration for being respectful toward Pollard and his style of playing hard and reading the game in defense. In 2020, during an appearance on Jason and Devin McCourty’s podcast ‘Double Coverage’, Pollard admits, “The Super Bowl was lost because Gronkowski wasn’t 100 percent…So they’re looking at two more Super Bowls the organization could have potentially had.”

Was Tom Brady deprived of 2 more Super Bowl rings due to Bernard Pollard’s efforts?
While most of his impact has been coincidental against the Patriots, Pollard never found a home at an NFL franchise in 9 seasons. His contributions sidelined some of the Patriots’ stars and potentially ended their chances of winning more Super Bowls with Brady. The hatred for Pollard is immense among the Patriots fans, who rue all the missed chances.

As another NFL campaign approaches closer, the Patriots will be happy about never facing Pollard ever again. The times have switched up in New England under head coach Bill Belichick. The franchise appears to be looking to bring back the glory years in 2022.
