On Thursday, the Purdue Boilermakers disclosed the news, to the outside world, of Drew Brees rendering services as an assistant coach. However, this is an interim position and does not guarantee a permanent role.

Well, it turns out, the former Super Bowl champion has no plans to take up the gig for a long-time either. He wants to keep it as low-profile as possible and fill the gap for former head coach Jeff Brohm who left for the Louisville Cardinals recently after guiding the team for six seasons.

While speaking to the panelists on SportsTalk, the Saints legend was asked whether he had any plans to approach further in this coaching field. He replied with a big ‘No’ and revealed the reason behind taking up the job.

“This is just a short-term thing. … This came about just with coach [Jeff] Brohm leaving and us being in a position where we were trying to fill the gap between now and the bowl game,” Brees said. He would be available until the Citrus Bowl when the Boilermakers face off with LSU on Jan 2. And later, he will get back to enjoying his retirement days, managing his quarterback role at home.

“I’m staying very busy. Raising kids, helping to coach them, doing a little carpool. Opening up Smalls Sliders and Walk-Ons. That’s keeping me plenty busy,” he added. The veteran spoke about his schedule in the interview.

While speaking to the reporters, Brees affirmed that it will be an opportunity for him to prepare for one of the best programs in the country. “…With coaching and mentorship over the next few weeks and then have a chance to game plan and get back in the mix a little bit and walk the sidelines … obviously with the Tigers, this will be a lot of fun,” Brees said.
