

Former NFL franchise Indianapolis Colts punt kicker Pat McAfee was recently trolling soccer players and the lack of physicality within the sport. The former player was in disbelief about how some players pretend to simulate to draw fouls and gain a competitive edge. He was keeping tabs on the CONCACAF qualifiers and was in disbelief about the differences in the level of physicality between soccer and American football.

One of the games that McAfee was following saw Canada taking on Costa Rica in the World Cup qualifiers fixture. An altercation involving two players from both nations did catch his eye and left him perplexed enough to tweet on Twitter.

While the NFL and soccer are both contact sports, there are differences in the severity of penalizing for contact. The sending off of the Canadian player ultimately resulted in the team losing the game to Costa Rica.

While they did try to bounce back with a response, the damage was done earlier with the player’s ejection. So, McAfee seems unconvinced with the amount of contact between the players that ultimately affected the outcome.

The NFL and soccer games do have different levels of aggressive play. But the difference in intensity of contact between the players is something McAfee can attest to for both sports. It seems fair to say that McAfee still has some connections with the sport he played in college. It is certain that his fans will hope to see more of his trolling in soccer games.
