Following a knee surgery for a torn MCL, 44-year-old quarterback Tom Brady seems to have a spring in his step as he enters the 2021 NFL season. Brady’s main goal in his 22nd season in the league is the same as it were the day he joined the New England Patriots back in the year 2000 – win a Super Bowl.

The quarterback claimed his seventh in the league last season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Trouncing the Kansas City Chiefs 31-9 in Super Bowl LV, the Bucs even earned a trip to the White House.

The event, a celebratory function to congratulate the Buccaneers on their success was hosted by the 46th President of the United States of America, Joe Bidden.

As Brady took to the podium, he lauded his teammates and coaches for pulling in together as a group to land a Super Bowl in what was a COVID ravaged season.

But Tom Brady didn’t miss the chance to poke some fun at the President himself. Referring to Biden’s nickname of ‘Sleepy Joe’, Brady cracked a joke in which he referenced a game against the Chicago Bears his team had lost to in 2020.

In one play, Brady had miscounted the number of downs his team had and ended up turning the ball over to the Bears to let them take possession and seal the game.

And since then apart from being the GOAT, Tom Brady also has earned himself the moniker of ‘Sleepy Tom’. “Why would they do that to me?” Brady then asked the President rhetorically.

Tom Brady looked to lighten the mood

During his appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio, Tom Brady broke down the reasons as to why he went with that joke.

“I was trying to bring a little levity to the situation,” Brady said. “You know, it was a hot day out there. I didn’t want to go up there and be boring, so it was really fun that the President laughed along with it,” said Brady.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback though, lauded President Biden for his humility to carry on with the act.

“I always think humility is a great trait for a lot of people. So when you can laugh at yourself and you can have a laugh with people, I think that’s a pretty fun thing to do.”

The Buccaneers themselves could use a pick me up at this moment, given how their preseason is going. In both games, the Bucs failed to get going and their most recent game against the Tennessee Titans was a 34-3 blowout.

The Tom Brady-led Tampa Bay Buccaneers kick off their 2021 campaign against the Dallas Cowboys on September 9th. They will have the advantage of home turf. So Bucs fans will surely hope for Brady to help lighten the mood a bit by getting a win on opening week.
