Being the absolute best at football and a legend comes with its challenges. Tom Brady has had his fair shares of ups and down in his professional and personal life. Brady is a popular (popular is an understatement; he’s mega-popular!) athlete and a public figure.

Celebrity athletes like him are under constant scrutiny. All the unnecessary media attention takes an enormous toll on their mental health. One such example of athletes opening up about their mental health is the leading gymnast of the Team USA, Simone Biles.

Apart from being highly successful athletes in their sports, what is common among Brady and Biles? They are athletes in high-power sports. These champions work hard. However, the pressure endured is insane and they suffer from a lot of mental stress.

Tom Brady understands the Simone Biles situation

Even though the difference between their sports is vast, the seven-time Super Bowl champion, Tom Brady, understands what it is like to be young and under perpetual expectations and stress.

Simone Biles announced to the world in 2020  during the Tokyo Olympics, which surprised numerous people. She stepped back from four individual events, as she did not feel mentally content. Biles also announced that she will focus on improving her mental health. Although she came back to win a bronze medal in the balance beam final. Many criticized the decision taken by the 25-year-old. People were mad. Many of them thought their hero, TB12, would never leave the field because of mental health issues. But Brady wholeheartedly supported Biles’ decisions.

Brady said, “I think there are so many young people in sports… Simone’s really young. I’m 44. When I was 24, I certainly didn’t have all the answers to all the different pressures and the adversities that you face. I don’t know if we have expectations for people that we should have all the answers, have all things figured out at young ages.”

Brady is the best advocate for mental health issues

Brady was only 24 years old when he won his first Super Bowl with the New England Patriots. He went on to achieve greater success in the public eye. This type of exposure affects an individual to a great extent.

Tom Brady always spoke about the importance of mental health and how young athletes should do everything in their power to better themselves and the situation. Brady is the best advocate for mental care. And as the football great has spoken about the problems faced by athletes, the conversations surrounding mental health will only progress further, as it should.
