The Bucs moved on from Brady and handed the reins to either Mayfield or Trask. It was a fierce competition, closer than expected. Mayfield did all the right things, earning the starting nod. New signal-caller for the Buccaneers, has a formidable task this season, since NFL icon Brady clinched a Super Bowl and two NFC South championships within a three-year span with the franchise. Nonetheless, Bucs’ head honcho, Todd Bowles, maintains that his squad can maintain their competitive edge without Brady.

On the flip side, Stephen A. Smith had a reality check for Bucs fans hoping for a smooth post-Brady transition with Mayfield. “[The Bucs] now have Baker Mayfield…I mean just stop the presses! I don’t know if y’all heard the news…just stop the presses… I mean are we just supposed to believe that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are entering better times on the horizon because Baker Mayfield is succeeding Tom Brady?” Smith doesn’t think the Buccaneers will do well after Tom Brady.
