Richard Seymour is the most recent addition to the illustrious NFL Hall of Fame. He played his first eight seasons with the New England Patriots and the final four with the Raiders. The defensive end helped the Patriots win three Super Bowls (2001, 2003, 2004). Seymour was selected in the Pro Bowl seven times. The Patriots recruited Seymour’s teammate, Tom Brady, a year before him. This means he was a rookie at the same time Brady took over the team as the starting quarterback. According to the former defensive end, all the power in the New England Patriots lay in the defense of the team. It was the defensive line that drove the team to the three initial Super Bowls. In Seymour’s words, “Offense sells, so I totally get it. But those early teams were led by the defense.”
In spite of Richard Seymour’s claim, Tom Brady proved that he is not just an athlete who depends on other players to win. Over two decades, Brady has had great moments against almost all the teams. With seven Super Bowl rings and 84,520 passing yards, it can definitely be disagreed that Tom Brady had no role in leading the New England Patriots to their Super Bowl victories.
