Travis Kelce Credits Bears GM Ryan Poles for Helping Create Chiefs Dynasty

Since 2019, the Kansas City Chiefs have been killing it both on and off the field. Although the team may have just bagged their third Super Bowl win earlier this year, just a few short years ago, they seemed to be at the bottom of the barrel with a lack of wins and low-running motivation.
While Travis Kelce and the rest of his team managed to pull together and become one of the NFL’s biggest rivals, the tight end shared that it would not have been possible without the Chicago Bears GM, Ryan Poles, who was the team’s former scout for years.

On this week’s episode of the New Heights podcast, Travis and Jason Kelce decided to bring on the comedian and Chicago Bears fan, Andrew Santino. After talking about the #1 Draft prospect Caleb Williams for a bit, the 40-year-old dived into the topic of his favorite NFL team. He stated that the Bears had been beaten up a lot over recent seasons, but the younger Kelce chimed in to say, “I do think you guys got a good GM right now.”

He even went so far as to call him “great.” After all, Kelce had once worked with GM Ryan Poles back when he was still the executive director of player personnel for the Kansas City Chiefs. Though the tight end seemed to forget his role until Santino brought up that he had been a scout, he couldn’t help but note, “he helped us build a lot of what we got.”
While Kelce might agree with most fans that Poles had helped the team achieve greatness by choosing the right players like Patrick Mahomes, not everyone seemed to agree with his exchange deal with the Carolina Panthers last year. However, it might have played to the GM’s advantage and given him a chance to create an even better roster at the Draft pick. Although most teams have been teasing fans with their potential choices for the draft, Ryan Poles chose to play his cards closer to his chest than most.

In recent NFL history, the Chicago Bears have proved to be quite a slump. While the team hit their lowest record of wins in a season back in 2020, things have been looking up ever since Ryan Poles was hired in January 2022. Although the 38-year-old has been gearing up for the NFL draft, he has chosen to save his excitement for the moment when it happens.

While everyone seems sure that the Chicago Bears will be choosing USC quarterback, Caleb Williams as the No.1 pick, Poles has kept mum on the whole situation. With 2 years as GM in his pocket, there is no doubt that the 38-year-old knows what he is doing. However, fans are hoping it will not be a repeat of last year’s surprise exchange deal that stumped everyone.
With Poles pulling off the NFL’s biggest trade last year with the Carolina Panthers, fans were outraged. However, it seems to have worked to his advantage with his deal also including another chance to steal a second-round pick in 2025.
