Kansas City Chiefs’ tight end, Travis Kelce, had suffered an unfortunate injury on September 5th, 2023. As reported, it was a hyper-extended knee the tight end experienced during practice. The Chiefs fans and coaches were disheartened that he could not play in the week 1 match against the Lions. Fortunately, we received some positive updates about his injury for the rest of the season.

The center for the Philadelphia Eagles, Jason Kelce, recently informed about his brother’s injury update. It was when the WIP Morning Show inquired the center about his brother’s condition, that Jason shared something very interesting. Both brothers, in fact, experienced the same kind of injury.

According to the September 6th update on Twitter/X, Jason had stated that Travis might actually be good to go to play against the Lions. From what they know at the moment, the tight end’s ligaments are structurally intact and his knee is fine. Nevertheless, they are more concerned about getting the swelling down. Kelce was diagnosed with a ‘bone bruise’, and the Chiefs are relieved that Travis’ ACL was unharmed and he would recover soon. It is interesting to add that Jason also mentioned how he suffered a similar knee injury.

Big brother Kelce in fact provided a detailed narrative of how he went through a bone bruise as well. It was while he was making a bonfire outside and amusingly enough believed he was capable of kicking a piece of wood in half. He ended up hyperextending his knee which swelled up soon after. Unlike Travis, the incident occurred off-court and Jason was in the middle of a season. “Man, that was the dumbest thing I’ve done in a long time,” was what Jason expressed in his state of injury.

If you guys have ever had those, they can be pretty painful especially if it’s a spot that’s rubbing all the time. And that can kind of shut down your muscles to do other things. But I think it’s gonna be good to go, I really do.” That being said, it’s natural to think if Travis actually had a chance of coming back to play, or if the Chiefs had to manage without their main tight end otherwise.

Will the Chiefs be able to manage without Kelce?

Although Jason Kelce had expressed his optimism about the situation and stated that Travis was going to have a chance to go, the tight end’s presence in the game was still in question. Unsurprisingly, the Chiefs had listed him under the uncertain category. However, without their tight end, the Chiefs were indeed in a pretty tight situation.

Without Kelce, it was obvious for the other players to fall under pressure. There was a high chance of the tension weighing on the quarterbacks and the wide receivers of the team. Not to mention, it got difficult for the Chiefs to maintain a smooth passing play and score points as they normally would. Therefore, it was more likely that the Chiefs would rely on other tight ends to make up for Kelce’s absence. For example, Grey replaced Kelce in the starting lineup.

All of this was easily visible in the Chiefs’ match against the Lions where the only notable performance from the Chiefs was that of Pat Mahomes, and the Chiefs ultimately suffered a defeat.

Travis Kelce’s absence had a significant impact on the team’s offense. Although the Kansas City Chiefs have excellent players, the team still needed to readjust their positions and planning in order to ensure their chance at victory. People are still hoping for the best and looking forward to Kelce’s return on the field.
