NFL training camps for the upcoming 2022 season have already begun, and preseason preparations have reached the next level. Meanwhile, the fans and the team’s marketing teams are busy with the proliferation of 1-on-1 reels from training camps to maintain the excitement. However, a recent snippet from the Dallas Cowboys training camp didn’t go down well with fans as they started degrading the abilities of players based on their practice performances. Cowboys’ cornerback Trevon Diggs became the victim of one such comparison that eventually made him deactivate his Twitter account.

The 23-year-old cornerback is slowly proving himself as one of the top prospects of the Cowboys‘ defensive unit. After coming off a successful season showcasing a career-high performance, his morale got boosted; however, this act from the fans seems to have disappointed him. Recently, a video snippet was released by Athletic’s Jon Machota, a heavyweight matchup 1-on-1 between Diggs and Cowboys’ wide receiver CeeDee Lamb.

The star WR was seen cooking his defensive counterpart by catching a deep throw and blazing through downfield, with Diggs unable to intercept him in the practice session. With this single reel, fans started judging him and his abilities.

Cowboys fans even started raising doubts over his Pro Bowl and First-team-All Pro selections last year. The Alabama product is coming off a season with league-leading 11 interceptions, the most by a cornerback since 1981.

He also registered 56 tackles and defended 21 passes in total. As a result, this performance entitled him a “breakout star”. Moreover, the training camps and off-season drills are specially organized to aid the offensive unit rather than the defensive one.

Thus, cornerbacks often go easy during the practice session. Regardless, judging a player based on their training sessions was poor behavior. Unfortunately, per reports, Diggs deactivated his Twitter handle and wants to stay out of this mess.

The 2021 season brought the youngster immense recognition and fame on the football front. Leading the team with his interception tally was indeed a cherishing moment for the cornerback. While speaking in an interview, he affirmed he will hunt for more and need more opportunities moving ahead.

“I feel like it’s normal,” said Diggs of his interceptions last season. “I feel like, I can get as many picks as I want, I just need the opportunities and good positioning, I’m going to make it happen. The sky’s the limit, so we’ll see. I need to be like a 97 speed, 98 catches, 98 jumps, and I need an X-factor, too,” he said. “I’m probably 80s now in route-running. I can still go out there and do it, but get me up there,” he added.

The cornerback is gearing up to play his third NFL season and recreate last year’s interception records. With Mike McCarthy at the helm, he can get more opportunities if he performs well in the upcoming days. Hopefully, he returns to the Twitterverse again!
