‘Try to Be That Guy’- Lavonte David Talks About His Leadership Skills During Contract Talks

Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers sealed a fairytale run to the Super Bowl LV title in 2021. The NFC South franchise defeated the Patrick Mahomes-led Kansas City Chiefs by a 9-31 scoreline last month.
One of their standout performers in the season finale were their defensive leaders Ndamukong Suh, Shaquil Barrett, and Lavonte David.
The 31-year-old was rewarded with a 2-year, $25 million contract extension ($20 million guarantees). The Tampa Bay-native will once again join his beloved Buccaneers in 2021 as they gear up to defend their NFL Championship title.

The 1-time Pro Bowler featured on the latest segment of The Herd with Colin Cowherd. He opened up on his role behind the scenes in Florida, which includes the time spent with youngsters on the roster.
“I can say that played a major part in it, not only for them but for myself, you know, I built a relationship with a lot of those guys on that team. And there’s a lot of young guys on that team who you know, kind of look at me for advice.

“So I definitely want to be around to see those guys grow man. Um, you know, it just shows the respect that that organization has to me in respect of my peers.

“So I’m definitely trying to be that guy, I try to be that leader…and I feel like I took on that role really well, man. And there are some that don’t happen overnight, you know, just something I had to really work on, and really just try to understand my teammates to help us, you know, get to where we need to be,” David said on the show.
Lavonte David is now one of the highest-paid linebackers in the NFL. Along with Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski, Shaquil Barrett, Mike Evans, and Chris Godwin, Lavonte is part of the core group of players in the Tampa Bay locker room.
