In an expected move, reports have emerged that Aaron Rodgers has renegotiated his contract with the New York Jets. The contract was signed last Tuesday. The Dream of playing for the Jets has come true and further for the 4 times MVP, as the Jets is doing every possible thing to make him feel at home after the trade. Rodgers has done numerous things for the deal to smoothen, and the Jets has even drafted players from his former team to fulfill his wish list. He definitely has all the necessary tools to add another Super Bowl to his legacy.

Aaron Rodgers led his former team to a Super Bowl victory in 2011. He has been with the Packers since 2005. A-Rod came to play for the Jets only in April this year and already there are some massive changes around the contract.

It is very clear that Rodgers refurbished his contract so that the Jets gets the upper hand. The new and restructured deal is extended to 2026 and the future of Rodgers seems certain with the team for the next 2 to 3 seasons. And now, the Jets only has to pay 1.165 million dollars, the base salary minimum to Rodgers. According to the three-year contract, the Jets were supposed to pay 15.8 million dollars in cap charges, which would put the team’s spending cap by several million dollars.

So now that Rodgers has made changes, they can move the 58.3-million-dollar bonus to next year resulting in a whopping 107-million-dollar payout for him reported by Rich Cimini. After the payout of 107 million dollars, a chunk of his salary from 2024 will be moved to 2023. But the Jets probably won’t bother bearing that huge burden until next year. They have the option to pay Rodgers more than the base minimum salary so they can opt out of paying that large sum next year.

Fans are skeptical at renegotiation

Fans quickly turned sour after the revelations and called the whole NFL salary cap rule “Fake“. Also, the curious ones rushed to speculate what would happen if Rodgers had an injury. Well, the contract states 49.25 million dollars guaranteed only against injury.

After the contract is over, Rodgers will be 41 and he might retire, and that seems highly likely just by looking at Tom Brady. The four-time MVP has a lot of time to figure all of this out before training camp begins. Also, the new roster looks very promising for the upcoming season.
